Anastasia Akhrosimova, known as Anna, was one of the first elves to come to the North Pole from Krakow in Poland. She has been there 165 years, and she teaches a class of young elf accountants and clerks. Anna is a lass of ten, and her hair is brown. She wears it so you can see her pointed elf ears. At the time The Elf Legacy begins, there are 209 elf lads and lasses at the North Pole. Many of them cannot read and write. The North Pole is growing, Santa Juvenescent has proclaimed that all elves will learn to read and write and Anna will be promoted to the Department Head and make it happen.

Tetsu and Emiko are Japanese and had been apprentices to Master Merlin for nearly two centuries. Merlin created the North Pole and its means of heating. He used the elfin runes: crystals of different colors which could be manipulated to change the physical world. Merlin is ready to leave the North Pole, but Mother Elf has given him one more task to do. Merlin showed Tetsu and Emiko how to make portals to simulate other worlds so that the elves could feel like they were leaving the North Pole for short breaks. The change of scenery would relieve them of an illness called Elfin Fatigue. The elves at the North Pole make all the toys and gifts that Santa and the reindeers take to families and children all over the world. The elves are people from all over the world who sign a contract to go to the North Pole to help Santa. They become elves and never age until they leave the North Pole when they resume aging as they would have done. But the real world continues with wars and fighting and news of it seeps into the North Pole.

This is a wonderful series of books that you can read to your children and begin a special Christmas tradition. If you have ever wondered about Santa or written a letter to him, The Magi Charter of nine books is a beautiful place to read all about it. It is a very modern rendition of the Christmas myth of the elves at the North Pole. Jordan David rounds out the characters beautifully, and there is room left for more books and more mystery.

Jordan David is a most creative author; he has imagined an incredible world built by Merlin at the North Pole. He has populated that world with a plethora of fascinating personalities and established relationships between them. The Elf Legacy is a sci/fi fantasy/mystery book which is hard to put down. There is so much intrigue with elves coming and going and Santas coming and going. There are the reindeers who must be looked after, fed and watered. Baby reindeer calves are born, a few of them cannot fly, which is a cause for concern. We know that the reindeer that cannot fly are being studied to find out why, but that story is still brewing and a possible pleasure to come.

I rate The Elf Legacy 3 out of 4 stars because it is an ingenious story with so many exciting facets that it is hard to stop reading. I do not rate it 4 out of 4 stars because so many wrong words are used suggesting the book needed another round of editing. All the books would make excellent Christmas gifts for families for reading together. The Magi Charter would make a beautiful film or tv series. I recommend the books to a broad audience for lovers of science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. The books are suitable for all age groups.
