We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the We are Voulhire series. This fantasy novel takes us through the adventures of a courageous prince who makes a unique decision from the other princes.

King Wilhelm Arcolo, also recognized as the Emperor of Lullabies has four sons who are the rightful heirs to his throne by the laws of the land. With time, he realizes that his sons will soon start fighting to replace him. To his surprise, he finds out that his sons are not fighting each other but, are conspiring to get rid of him. He comes up with a solution. He divides his kingdom and gives each son an island off the mainland. This settles the atmosphere for a while until two years later. War breaks for the next twenty years until Galen Bray, one of the Princes moves to Voulhire and chooses a different path.

This book is written in a narrative and the narrations are from the points of view of Galen Bray, King Wilhelm, Midius and Meldorath. There are witty dialogues which bring about a moment of ease to the tension-filled surroundings, one instance being the old man on the boat to Voulhire. Character introduction is well done and it is easy to keep track on all of them. The is a map included at beginning of the book which is a great contribution. Getting around the book has been made more fun.

I loved that as much as King Wilhelm is wicked, he is also wise. He takes note of the building up thirst for power and works to neutralize the situation.

Galen Bray brings out the theme of courage and bravery. As young as he is, he ventures a foreign land in pursuit of peace. Here, he doesn't find the peace he has always wanted and he seeks to create it. Voulhire too has it's own share of problems. The bad blood between Voulhire and Riva Rohari is also a battle Galen must win. Galen is so far my favorite character.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I didn't have any difficulty picking up and getting hooked into the book right away. The writing is flawless and it is professionally edited. This will be an amazing read to young adults and any other person who loves fantasy novels involving battles for thrones. Looking forward to reading the next book.
