I didn't know the author wrote another book. I will have to check it out. I read The Book Thief after seeing the movie, which is the opposite of what I usually do. I was 50/50 regarding which I liked more. The movie really brought to life the setting, the bombings, the characters. On the other hand, the book was more realistic and the writing was superb.

Owlie, I would really like to watch the movie as well, but maybe only after I read the book. And yes, a good reader friend of mine recently told me that she may have even liked his I Am The Messenger book the most. For whatever that's worth, I can't say until I read both, but her opinion is highly valued :)

I have read both books ("I am The Messenger" & the "The Book Thief") and loved them both. 8)

I'll add my twopence worth: I thought The Book Thief one of the absolute best book I've read but I wasn't overly impressed with I Am Messenger. Now over to you, read both and let us have your considered opinion. Enjoy

I agree that "The Book Thief" was better, but I enjoyed the other book as well. 8)

The Book Thief continues to be a popular read, especially since the movie has been made. Anytime a novel considers books as "treasures", I will read the author's work.

Together with The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I always give this book to nieces/nephews/friend's kids when they asked me for some recommendations. And they all loved it. The book might have been released for teens (grade 12 and up, I think), but in no way does it trivialize its theme. On the contrary, it gives it a different kind of depth.

The Book Thief is absolutely one of my favorite books. It has been a few years since I have read the book, but it is definitely a story that stays with you. Markus Zusak has a unique way of writing that, I felt, just pulls you in. I would (and frequently do) recommend this book to everyone!

The Book Thief is an amazing book and incredible unique. The POV helps show modern society how bad it really was back then and displays how lucky we are to live in first world countries. Other than that whenever I hear Liesl's name or something close I have a book theif existential crisis. Would recommend to basically anyone and I have, even my friend who sadly don't read.

I have the book, but haven't started it yet. Your review and the way other individuals talk about it, makes me want to read it. Tuesday I have a book that is coming out that I've been waiting for. But after I am done reading that book, maybe I will read start The Book Thief.

This is tied for my favorite book of all time. I loved the idea of death as a narrator and I thought it added such a great touch to the story. I bawled over this book and I have read it numerous times over the eyars. Its just amazing.

A very good book potraying general feelings of anti-hitler germans and their fate in hands of Hitler's army....though it saddened but thus far a favourite of mine...especially author's idea about writing book through deaths view....great work...
