The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The book is apparently written from the perspective of death. Interesting, huh? I think I may read it.
If you have read it, what did you think of it? (Please, no spoilers.)

Hi Scott - I read it semi-recently...I found it interesting that it is considered a children's book considering the subject matter, but also the language. I mean its not that the language is crazy-difficult - it just seems geared towards an adult perspective.Scott Hughes wrote:Have any of you read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak? I have not, but I have been told that it is very good.

It IS from the perspective of Death but also really of the main character Liesl, because Death likes to talk about her, and I found it really interesting cos I love that sort of stuff about angels and devils and stuff, and also its got a sense of 'magic realism' about it - Death's quite poetic really when he (she?) talks about his (her?) 'job'. Its a really beautiful story and some gorgeous imagery flits in and out of a quite sweet German tale set in very dark times. I wont spoil it but I think that the book a character makes in 'The Book Thief' deserves a special mention because it is starkly beautiful and strange and quite frankly moved me to tears. I dont often cry in books. Amazing ending too.
In short, I really recommend it as its one of my favourites.
