Although not my normal cup of tea,"The Spirit of Want"by William H. Coles is one of the great read which taught me of the real life situations,I would even in the future read this a million times,I highly recommend it to fans of literary drama and romance fiction. Its easy writing style of the author(use of simple and understanding language) in the sample and the plot is compelling and very intelligent.
The book has a cast of great characters involved and engaged in deep and real-like dialogue,we are given the opportunity to know and feel the character's mood,it describes Lucy and Luke's highly charged and emotional journey from the first time they met:Lucy feels abandoned by her parents as she is black and adopted, she thinks that her sister Elizabeth is the more favoured one as she is white, the novel touches on the issue of racism where she terms her parents as bias especially her father, they face struggles from getting married(Luke and Lucy) and then Lucy taking on the case where she meets and falls for Bain...her pregnancy and abandonment by her family and other harsh realities of life.
The drama in the book makes it completely enjoyable, where it comes to a time when Elizabeth (Lucy's sister)is in relationship with Luke(Lucy's husband),It has a mixture of happy and sad moment, where the beginning is somehow of jovial mood where it starts with Luke being invited to a party for donation by his companion...some parts are also sorrowful and painful but nevertheless, I loved the ending of it.
I would give it a rating of 3 out of 4 stars,it is not technically perfect as I do feel the pacing needed tightening and the editor needed to use a red pen over many trivial details and some punctuation errors but at the same time it has got useful content and so far,I feel that this is the best book that I have read and loved.
The author"William H.Coles"is highly talented, the book has gone as far as proofing this,he puts himself in the shoes of the youths explaining what they face in their daily routines and activities as they grow,it motivates and gives hope to the hopeless as it is based on true life situations and realities and for this,I wouldn't mind reading more of his books.
