The Tigers wife by Téa Obreht

Post by ffame80 »

In this beautifully written work, Natalia tells about the times she and her grandfather spent going on their walks together to the zoo in Balkan country. Her grandfather, always carrying his copy of "The Jungle Book," had stories to share with his granddaughter. The story most dear to her memory was one about the tiger, who after the circus land had been bombed in the war, escaped from his captivity and ventured out looking for food. Grandfather also shared a secret, of his illness that he hadnt even brought up to his wife or daughter, that was to remain kept between them only. Natalia, a doctor, worked through her memories while her and her friend Zóra travelled to bring medicine to the children at the orphanage. War had changed their home land and those arround them and her grandfather just before he died continued to follow his routine giving himself something he could still live for, and shared his story of meeting the tiger as a boy. I'm giving this book 4 of 5 stars.
