I sometimes like reading family sagas, but, in this case, the pace of the story is too slow. However, the book has documentary value for immmigrants' hard life and especially the plight of women and children in a patriarchal society. Thanks for your review!

I like well-written realistic fiction and I think it would be a very eye-opening experience for me to read about an immigrant family's experience even generations after the migration. I'm not sure how I feel about never being told about how Mateo's friend died, but I don't know if that's enough to keep me from reading it. Thank you for the helpful review.

Grammar errors are not peculiar to non-native English speakers though. As for the book, I think it will be an interesting read seeing that it is a work of fiction based on non-fiction.

Great review. This book is a good read and also an eye opener for parents - having a child is not a business but a responsibility.

Family and love, amidst many destructive behaviors, sum up the book. I am not sure I will be reading this one due to the dark themes.

No matter how "ordinary" others' lives seem to be, we never know the real heaviness that they carry unless we know their story. This novel is an example of such. Thank you for your review!

This is a book I wouldn't mind getting my hands on. Domestic violence is still rampant in our society and stories of the victims need to be told and retold.

This book depicts the reality for some immigrants. But I'm not into reading dramas or books that are too heavy.

A good review. I could glean from the review that there is more to the book that meets the eye.

This plot is not ordinary, compared to its title. I like the advice of not judging a book by its cover, so I will read this book. Thanks for the review.
