Review of The Bitch in Disquise
Title: The Bitch in Disguise
Author: Carole Lonsdale
Despite its preponderance of graphic sexual scenes, seedy overtone, and, at times, bad editing, I enjoyed this book and was strangely sucked in, similar to becoming addicted to a TV soap opera, and read it in less than two days. The story is like an accident that is slowly and tortuously reaching its conclusion, and the ending will testify to this.
I have an immense amount of sympathy for Elisa, who was sexually abused at the very young age of seven, and I feel that this is possibly the reason for her lifelong promiscuity, or perhaps her need for satisfying someone else, as she learnt as a child. Her moral deficiency is made worse as she revels in having sex with her friend's husband. The author does not mistreat her, but neither is she treated sympathetically. The reader will be aghast at her actions.
This book is fun to read over a weekend, a break from the mundanity of everyday life. It is entertaining and has messages that could be taken on board. Descriptive prose is kept to a minimum, and we see life through her eyes. She is not a complicated woman but one with a sad and unfulfilled soul. The book is short and very easy to read.
As I have already mentioned, the book's editing is not perfect, and there are explicit sexual descriptions. For this reason, I will recommend it as an adult-only book. I enjoyed Carole Lonsdale's writing style, and she is perfectly adept at captivating an audience. I will not award it a full five out of five stars, as it lacks the depth and drama of a perfect novel, but as I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will give the next star down: A four out of five-star rating. I disliked nothing and found it to be a good and entertaining read.
