Ken Halsey was not a handsome man. In fact, all of his life, he tried to get girls to go out with him, but to no avail. If it was a blind date, and they would catch a glimpse of him beforehand, they would turn around and not proceed with the date. When he was younger and in school, he was always picked last to be on someone’s team. No one ever wanted him on their team, and they would argue as to who would take him on. In 6th grade, Ken was in love with Michelle Connelly and dreamt that they would be together. He ran for Vice President of his sixth-grade class, but he only got two votes, his own, and he thinks the other was from Michelle. Michelle broke his heart when she told him in no uncertain terms that she did not want to go out with him and never would.

Ken started drinking and doing drugs, and when he went away to Bloomsburg College, it led the way for him to become a full-blown drug addict and alcoholic. He went home and went to a local college, thinking that it would curb his illegal habits, but they only continued. He started student teaching, thinking that this was what he wanted to do for a career, but this did not work out as he had hoped. He then became addicted to sex with prostitutes and spent all of his hard-earned money on women for hire. What was to happen to Ken? Will he stop all of the sex, drugs, and drinking? Will he find the girl of his dreams?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book at the beginning. It was interesting to delve into Ken’s life as a child and the different situations that he would get himself into. After a while, when Ken was an adult, his shenanigans became boring, and you just wanted to scream at him to grow up and straighten himself out. People can’t change their looks, but they can change their attitude and the way that they present themselves.

I am going to rate this book, One More Reason to Cry, 4 out of 5 stars. Although I enjoyed the book, I’m deducting one star because of the repetitiveness of his drinking and taking drugs. There is a hint of a sequel, so I hope that Ken straightens himself out. The author did a great job of relaying the story to the audience, and he developed the characters with detail and precision. I would recommend this book to anyone who is not sensitive to the daily dalliance of alcohol and drugs.

Addiction is a big problem for those who have it and their significant others. Some people have not found a healthy way to cope with their pain. They continually try to forget the pain by numbing their minds. Besides good looks, what was Ken missing? I hope this book sheds light on this. I am adding this story to my bookshelves.

Addiction is actually a disease but I believe it has a solution. I would love to understand how Ken handles this continous alcoholism and drug abuse and if he is able to build a career.

What a lovely and honest review! The book highlights the struggles many face with self-image and acceptance. Ken’s journey illustrates how early experiences can lead to significant challenges, including substance abuse. While the struggle with addiction is complex, I'm interested to know how Ken overcomes personal battles.

The raw portrayal of Ken’s downward spiral into addiction and his struggles with self-worth intrigues me. I’d like to know if the story explores the deeper psychological reasons behind his choices or offers any insight into his moments of reflection or attempts at redemption. The repetitive nature of his behavior might be frustrating, but it sounds like a gritty and honest narrative. I might consider reading it if the sequel hints at some growth or resolution for Ken.

I'm curious about Ken's appearance and what made him so self-conscious. I guess it is true that no one will ever see your beauty until you see it yourself. I can't agree more with you; if he didn't find his own footing, no one would do it for him. Thanks for this enlightening review. I'm looking forward to reading the book.
