Yes, that was the best way I could think to describe it. Each story is so brief they're almost screenshots of moments in life. I enjoyed the style even though I wanted more. Perhaps if the author had made them longer they would have been less impactful.

Yes, it certainly reads as if it were a non-fiction. I secretly think these were each real events the author's friends and family underwent and she has just changed the names to tell their stories.Maryjoy_dbookworm wrote: ↑06 Apr 2018, 10:03 This story is secretly meaty. It feels like a true-story based but in a fictional form.

This is such a horrible incident to be buried in secret. In the late summer and early fall of 1988, over 4,500 Iranian political prisoners were massacred by the government of Iran. For not supporting the new regime of 1979, opponents of the new theocratic government were imprisoned, questioned, tortured and in 1988-murdered.
I wonder what "Peonies" have got to do with this. Why is this book entitled "The Buried Secrets of the Peonies"?
I'm so sorry to hear about this.
May justice prevail and the criminals be punished.

Eek, I don't know if I'd jump to "wonderful," but it was certainly educational. I think I'd use a term more acquainted with "shameful."
I hope you do read it though, I would love to hear your opinions.

Yes, I'm baffled as to how this is STILL being covered up.Academics04 wrote: ↑07 Apr 2018, 20:55 Excellent review, actually I haven't heard about the scenario surrounding the emergence of this novel before now, but after reading this review I have a feel for those people and disapproval to such historical tragedy perpetrated by a government. I"ll have to read the book to know more.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review!
