You certainly make this book sound like one that everyone ought to read. However, I'm not very comfortable with the "falling in love with a married man" angle, all though I know that does happen. My enjoyment of the book would depend a lot on how that part is treated.

Wow! That was some review!
I was not planning on picking up a new book to read but I believe I will pick this up as soon as I can.
There is something soothing about a realistic fiction about a real human with all the good and evil that makes us flesh and blood. And with all the fantasy genres out there, there isn' t as much realistic fictions coming out and joining our bookshelves as I would like.
Lovely review!

The beginning reminds me of "To Be The Best" by Barbara Taylor Bradford. Sounds like a mixture of perfection with learning. Great review. Congrats. Good to know that you liked your first book of the year.

he story gets under the skin of the reader, and soon enough, we are emotionally attached. We feel a surge of pity, mixed with anger and hatred when Alex belts Natalie for protecting Libby, her cow. We feel happy when she is happy. We hope with her, and we dream with her.
Wah! What a great book! I am grabbing it right away

Natalie seems like a girl who strives to get something good from life despite having an impossible situation at home. Glad you liked it. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the great review. This looks like a book I can definitely relate to as I watched my mother get abused as a child and then I went on to marry an abusive man. I came out of all that and I hope the character in the story does as well. He character seems very strongwilled which can either be the death of her, or help her from getting to much of the abuse. I can't wait to read this story and find out, thanks again for the great review.

While I’m impressed with this glowing review of the author’s work, I don’t think this novel is for me. The sample of the novel was well-written and interesting, but I wasn’t engaged enough that I wish to continue. I am, however, curious to know the outcome of Natalie’s battle to protect Libby, especially knowing she got belted for her trouble.
