I don't remember reading Jane Austen myself (a tragedy per Kandscreely!). I will have to read Pride and Prejudice very soon, so I can relate to this novel and to Lizzie's fixation.

I am intrigued by the lying (by Jane Austen!) and the great ending. And I love snooping into diaries!

Thanks, Bookowlie, for this thoughtful review!

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback! The book was a fun, light read. I think most readers would enjoy it, regardless of whether they love Jane Austen or even have read any of her books!

This sounds like a fun take on a popular topic. We see so much of Jane Austen's influence in our culture--especially with frequent movies that pay homage to her work. I love the concept of a book showing the downside of all that influence!

bookowlie wrote: 16 Jan 2018, 15:55 Thanks everyone for the nice feedback. I have never read any of Jane Austen's novels, although I have read one or two books that were inspired by her books. Gali - I read and enjoy another book by Curtis Sittenfeld and am going to add your recommendation to my reading list.
I suggest you start with the original book, "Pride and Prejudice". It is one of the best books ever. :)
I wholeheartedly agree! (And truly don't understand those who think it is boring! There is something wrong with them.)

This book looks like something I would greatly enjoy, even with the slow pace. I will have to check this one out.

Another Jane Austen fan here! This sounds like a great contemporary take of some of my favorite characters in the literary world.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

Thanks RebeccasReading, Kat Berg, and CatinTheHat. RebeccasReading - You hit the nail on the head! The story definitely shows the downside of the influence Jane Austen has had. The main character certainly viewed life throughout the characters and plots in Austen's books, which wasn't realistic.

I love Jane Austen's books. What a brilliant idea for a book this seems. I do agree that texts like these should not appear to have random detail. There must be a golden threat that runs through all the charachters and developments described. Nevertheless I am pleasently surprised by all the creative books out there. Thank you for this good review.
