I like books that show character development. I find it interesting to read books where the author shows imperfections of the main character. With you finding the character still likeable despite his drinking problem indicates that the author has done a good job. I definitely want to read this book.

On a general note the book is a big NO for me, the book cover and the book title are not helping also. I've been coming across it for some time now but its today that I decided to give it a try by just reading the review. And it was good.

The title of this book had me hooked!
Thank you for your solid review of The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid.
After reading the free kindle sample on Amazon, I was struck by how unsophisticated the writing was.
"this happened, and then this happened, and then emotion happened", resulting in you not feeling their emotions.
But I care enough for the quirky characters and want to know what happens to them, so I'll probably add this one to my book shelf for a rainy day.

It sounds like a book that is packed with evil-drugs, alcoholism and nudity. However, it seems to bring out the reality of the lives of many people who struggle with alcoholism and other vices. Good review.

Great review!!! I like that you included the exact audience that this book would appeal to. I do wish the author would have chosen a different cover.

The characters in this story definitely sound fascinating, and it's always cool to hear the stories of people who have lived lives different from ours. However, after reading the sample I don't think the writing style really suits me, so will probably give this one a miss.

It sounds like the friendship between Gary and Duke was really important to both of them. Hopefully they're able to help each other with their alcoholism. Thanks for the review!

It's commendable for an author to take their time developing great characters. I'm always sorely disappointed when character development is rushed, so I'm interested to see his stylistic execution and the scenes/experiences the author creates in order to show us each character's growth over time. Also, I love a good bromance.

Stories on character development can be a good genre but I may not like the nudity, alcoholism, and drugs. This as a good review. I hope reading this book will develop my character.

A book that solely focuses on developing two characters is amazing enough. I find myself drawn to this kind of book, maybe because it adds to the reader's perspectives. It also helps the reader to have an open mind. I like how it divided the story into three parts. I am already excited to read this book! Definitely would give this a space in my to-read list! Thanks for the review!
