Review of Comfort in the Wings
Comfort in the Wings: A Novel Inspired by Love is a story about Larissa grieving the loss of her children. As she is unsure of what happened to her children, she is struggling to move on. When she gets a work opportunity to get away and see an old friend, she hesitantly agrees to the trip to try to get her mind off of things and get back to work. On her journey, she meets a variety of characters, each of whom teaches her a lesson about life, love, and grief. She learns a lot about herself and her family and realizes she must consciously work to move on, and her life will never be the same.
I am in love with this book. The author conveys grief realistically and emotionally. I read the second book in this series first, and they can be read as stand-alone books or as part of the series. Both books elicit empathy and grief in the reader, as you can feel Larissa’s pain. Beyond all the sadness and grief, this is a story of a parent’s love for her children, and the writing shows that.
The secondary characters were well-developed and played a significant role in the story, even if they only appeared briefly in the book. Each person teaches Larissa a lesson that impacts her path to accepting her new life.
I like that the reader does not find out what happened to Larissa’s children for most of the story. The buildup of pieces of information included throughout the book kept my attention, and I felt as if I was figuring out the events alongside Larissa.
I rate this book 5 out of 5. I found no editing errors. The story is enjoyable and touches your heart. My only minor complaint is that some of the dialogue did not flow like real dialogue and sounded forced.
I would recommend this book to anyone dealing with grief or loss. It is also just a great book for anyone who loves books with drama and self-discovery. Due to some adult content and discussions of drug and alcohol abuse, I would recommend this book to adults with a trigger warning.
