A fun, twisted, thought-provoking read! James Hanna knows how to exploit stereotypes without creating monolithic characters. His absurdist fiction is clearly rooted in everyday reality, showing that reality to be absurdist as well. I liked the sample so much, I bought the book.
“A book, too, can be a star, ‘explosive material, capable of stirring up fresh life endlessly,’ a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.”

Thank you for a great review EMoffat on A Second, Less Capable Head. It is definitely an interesting electic mix of stories. It was funny when they guy complained it was not a human head, but a monkey head. Then his girlfriend said he should know he picketed the abortion clinic. Thank you James.

Being a probation officer must surely be a no-dull-moment job. It gave Hanna the first-hand experience of delving into criminal minds and enabled him to write stories that mirror reality. I can't wait to read these stories and know the evil that men and women can do. Bizarre may be more common than we think; beware!

You are a most capable reviewer, EMoffat!

Assuming I didn't want to read this book, this detailed and interesting review would move me to. I want to read of the characters that were so poignantly described that they pull you in. I want to laugh at the dark humor. Thanks for this great review.

Your words have drawn me in already, so much that I cannot wait to see how much actually reading the book will do the same! An exemplary review for what seems to be an excellent novel. Thank you kindly, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your perspective. :tiphat:

Sounds like a fun mix of genres and something out of the ordinary. I love out of the ordinary! Sounds especially weird, right up my alley.

Your review is so poetic that I almost feel ashamed with my first review. However, I am glad you enjoyed the book so thoroughly and now wish to check it out myself.

Thanks for the review. It is very insightful but I feel reading the point of view of many different types of people carrying out illegal and illicit actions is like voluntarily developing the Stockholm Syndrome. I am glad you enjoyed the book though.

Thanks for your review! The book sounds creepy, but in a good way. I'm curious to know if the stories only describe people with mental illnesses who commit crimes or if they also delve into regular people who struggle with mental health issues.

These stories evoked strong memories of my high school foray into Kafka - I'm hooked! I can't wait to see what else James Hanna has published! There is no better feeling than finding a new favorite author!
