"The Conflagration" by B. Sabonis-Chafee is an intriguing story that starts with a conference being held by a special council. They are discussing the wreckage of an ancient aircraft in the Antarctic region. Inside, they find an undamaged, intact cryonic capsule with a completely preserved female human. The council debates what should be done with the body. Should they bring it to the surface and attempt to understand the thinking of the pre-conflagration world? They also discuss how to prepare a laboratory and use existing technology to bring the female back to life. Surella is against the idea, believing that these humans were responsible for the destruction that resulted in mass devastation on Earth. Despite her objections, the council decides to proceed with the plan and conducts a poll among the common people to gauge their opinion. After ten days, they reconvene to decide on the next course of action. The poll is in favor of bringing the "snow girl" up, and the process begins. From this point, the plot unfolds, and you are taken on an exciting journey. Kudos to Sabonis for writing such a captivating book.
