Review of Ezekiel's Eyes
Ezekiel is an extraordinary boy with angel power and demon poison running through his veins. He came back to life after momentarily dying at birth. This experience makes him somewhat similar to a conduit for the supernatural. From birth, he can do awe-inspiring things that aren't normal for a boy his age. As he grows, he finds himself in a battle against evil; however, at 15, an unexpected event happens. Sometime later, he will meet Father Connors, and together they will ally.
On the other hand, a demon called Nestor continues to wreak havoc on human lives, and unsurprisingly, his paths cross with Ezekiel, known as the foretold one. Will Ezekiel be able to win the war of good against evil, or will he give in to the dark side?
Ezekiel's Eyes by John Pease is a suspense-filled Christian thriller that leaves you craving more and wondering what will happen next. With different plots and twists, we see the power of determination and discipline shine through at every turn. The war between good and evil is a reality with form, and we are hooked to see how Ezekiel handles the pressure of responsibility resting on his shoulders.
I loved how this book seamlessly touched on various topics without altering the plot, from bullying to sexual perversion to grief. These issues were addressed in a subtle yet emphatic way that left readers with quite an impact. I also loved the writing style and tone; the book wasn't so fast-paced that you struggled to keep up, nor was it so slow-paced that you would find yourself nodding off at intervals; it just had the best pacing. The visualization was also great; I could almost picture the scene involving Nestor and Rico. The little excerpts at the beginning of each chapter also served as an anticipation boost for what to expect in the chapter. I enjoyed how the author could blend biblical bits into the plot without making the book something to be regarded strictly as "religious". Finally, I found no errors in the book, which suggests it was exceptionally well edited.
However, although I understood the relevance of some Bible scriptures at the beginning of each chapter, I couldn't understand how some correlated to the chapter. Also, the switching of different points of view was a bit confusing at times, as was the going back in time that happened in some chapters, for example, the scene where Nestor started screaming and throwing things around for no apparent reason, and we are suddenly taken back to the circumstances surrounding Ezekiel's birth.
In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I will rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I'm giving this book a perfect rating because it had the right amount of suspense, an excellent plot progression, and no irrelevant scenes. Everything tied up really nicely in the end. The things I did not like are subjective and shouldn't affect another reader's experience. If you're a lover of fantasy, action, and thrillers, then you're definitely in for a ride. Grab this book off the nearest shelf, sit back, and enjoy!
