Review of Praesidium
Praesidium by McKinley Aspen is the first book in the Shadows in the Wind series.
The storyline is about a team of four members who are appointed by Raphael Landy, senior manager of a nonprofit organization named HGS. When Raphael meets to hire them, he tells them that they own some kind of powers which even they are not aware of. One among them is Kathryn, who is in her last year at Yale University. She meets Raphael at a career fair. Raphael offers her a good annual salary including several other requirements such as housing, full medical and dental benefits. She accepts the job considering the fact that she will not receive a better job offer straight out after her graduation. She also doesn't know what this job exactly is about or how it would affect her relationship with her long distance boyfriend Scott, a law student at the University of Chicago.
On her fifth birthday, Kathryn encounters a tragic incident. She realizes for the first time that her father has an own sister, Jacquelyn who is a weird woman. The same day her father disappeared on the sidewalk, when talking to her aunt.
This book is a real page-turner. It begins with the an incident from Kathryn's fifth birthday. But then skips few years to when she's in Connecticut doing her major in Business Administration in the Yale University.
When Kathryn accepts the job offer from Raphael, she meets the three other members from her team in the organization. Among them, I absolutely loved Ashley's character. She such a bubbly yet bold woman. The way she cares for the girls who were kidnapped and how she joins Kathryn's decision to save them first without having second thoughts is marvelous.
I also liked how Kathryn, Ashley, Greg and Michael tried and worked along together even with their differences.
If you want to know more about what these team of four do and what they accomplish, give this book a try. It gets really interesting right from the beginning and is also fast paced. There's no unnecessary dragging of the story. And the ending leaves you curious about the next book in series and what more is to come for these four members.
I have no issues with this book and would give it a 5 out of 5.
This book is an amazing blend of thriller, science-fiction, romance and friendship.
It's a rare combination of genres that is well planned and wonderfully written. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into thriller and science-fiction. You'll definitely enjoy reading it.
