John K. Danenbarger crafts an intricate story Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise, which is set in such a timeline that jumps back and forth, stringing many stories of all its characters together in the author's own unique way.
The story starts in the year 2044, when Geena Nuss receives news that her father has passed away. This sparks something in her, and she sets out to find answers to questions that haven't posed themselves well enough yet. Then, jumping from person to person, from one point in time to another, we follow the events of eight different people but stay closely connected to the members of Geena's family, consisting of her mother, father, her, and her brother. Her family's past and future unfold slowly as we are taken through a sort of time travel, collecting bits and pieces of events in the lives of various people who have crossed paths with them and through some mysterious deaths which will all be placed in their rightful places to create this big picture which gives us the core concept of the story. We first connect with the mother, Beth, as she struggles through her life, unfortunate meetings, close escapes from predators, and all the ups and downs that somehow contribute to the story. We then accompany Kevin in his secretive quests for vengeance and misguidance, leading to some ugly events. In addition, there are also more unique characters that contribute to the story. And Geena takes it upon herself to bring all of these events together from the past and the future by means of quantum theory.
Danenbarger executes wonderful craftsmanship with the complex story-telling in this book. It was really fun reading about people of dynamic backgrounds, as they were all well-written and unique in their own ways. The grim nature of the book and the grisly events draw the reader's full attention, as we anticipate finding out how all the anecdotes and characters are connected and how it all ends.
There isn't anything that can be pointed out as a major flaw in the book. I guess it is worth noting that the pacing of the book is initially quite slow, but it starts to pick up later on. One needs patience to really progress through the book, but it all turns out to be worth it in the end. The story is one of a kind and very fun to read.
I give the book five out of five stars. It is exceptionally well edited and is truly a breath of fresh air. The storyline is quite intriguing and the method used to execute the story-telling is also quite remarkable. I think that people who enjoy suspense, crime, and grim mysteries would find great enjoyment in this book.
