Review of Teething Problems
Teething Problems by Mark Fletcher centers around a young boy trying to discover who his biological father is. His mother told him his father was dead and told him stories about him, especially the one about how he had been a hero through his breakthrough in research and had saved people’s lives. There was this picture frame of him and his father that he cherished so much. One day, a man came knocking on the door and introduced himself to him as his father. He was stunned, and he confronted his mother about who exactly his biological father was. Was it the man on the frame or the one at the door? In Teething Problems, the author explored themes of family secrets, betrayal, and the desire for connection and understanding.
What I particularly enjoyed about this book was the humor of the protagonist. The author properly expressed the thoughts in his head, and I found them to be really hilarious. Diane may not have found him funny, but I did. I also liked how realistic his general thought process was. His reaction to finding out that his mother had kept his father a secret from him was quite expected. I loved the part of the story where he had to come up with comebacks to humiliate Diane at the café; it was childlike and interesting.
I didn't find anything to dislike about this book. There were no grammatical errors in it, which proved that it was exceptionally well edited. Also, the direction of the story was quite clear.
I give this book a solid five out of five stars rating. It was a very straightforward story and had some elements of romance, which I really loved.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy character-driven stories that explore complex family dynamics and the challenges of navigating difficult relationships. I also recommend it to fans of family dramas and coming-of-age stories. The book will likely resonate with anyone who has struggled with issues of trust and identity within his own family.
