Thanks everyone! I am happy to see that the book is BOTD today. The author deserves the extra exposure for such an interesting story. I read this book last summer, but the characters and story really stayed with me.

Yes, this sounds like an area I would be interested in exploring through fiction. Although not "true," good fiction is a reflection of real life from someone's perspective. This book sounds true to my ideal of a good story. I know little about military life, or adjusting to civilian life, but have heard many discouraging tales. I would be interested to read more of this.

The book really gives you a good sense of how different people are affected by long military deployments.

I looks like this book is BOTD again today. Your review gives a lot of insight into the book and it sounds quite interesting. Sometimes I enjoy a slower paced book. Maybe this will be one of them :-)

It's interesting to learn about how soldiers adjust with changes after being deployed. I agree that it might sound strange that some would rather go back than stay and live a normal life. Books like this could help us understand the emotional and psychogical impact of being assigned to go to war. Thanks for your very insightful review.

Great review. Very complete. Thanks for acknowledging all the military families who have waited for their sons and daughters to return from deployments. Will definitely read this one!

This seems like an interesting read, but it it also seems like a slow book to read. I think books about war and its effects are interesting, but sobering to read. Great job on the review!

Fantastic review. It sure looks like the book will provide an interesting read. I'll have to read it as soon as possible.

Fantastic review! The writing style that you describe sounds enjoyable. PTSD is not an easy topic to write about or discuss, but from what you say, it sounds as though Durkota tells a story about it eloquently.

Once in a Blue Year by Michael D. Durkota is a story
of two Navy men struggling to come to terms after they are cut from a mission. But before they can move on, they must both come to terms with the fateful event at sea that changed their lives forever.

I'm a big fan of psychological suspense novels and add in the problems of the Navy men deployed and those left behind and I'm hooked. Grabbed my copy. Congrats on being BOTD and thanks for making it free.

Awesome review! I am a fan of these type of books. Too bad about the snail pace though.
