Review of Three loves and other stories
The brief and captivating stories in Lata Gullapalli's Three loves and other stories explore a range of emotional ties and feelings entwined in various human interactions. Every story begins with intense love and devotion, the challenges women experience in achieving recognition and equality, and society's rejection of women.
The book is a compilation of numerous short stories. The characters in each story are going through various emotions, including falling in love. The stories are very diverse from one another, each examining a different form of love. A male workaholic has a romantic relationship. A couple struggles to maintain their love relationship despite the uncertainty of life. A woman experiences the toxicity of patriarchal culture and an egocentric boyfriend and loses her sense of self. This book guides us through various sour-sweet love roads.
The narratives are about individuals from India, but the lessons and emotions felt by the characters can be applied to people everywhere. Each story begins with a superb poem that gives the reader a glimpse into the story's essence. "Magic" is one of my favorite stories. That portrays a young married couple's unadulterated love and passion well. Additionally, I enjoy the tale "Soul Energy." In that story, the strength of a man's soul, vitality, meditation, and gratitude are well-presented. I sincerely appreciate the author's attention to various significant issues and feelings that people encounter daily and the remedies provided.
Third-person storytelling fosters a pleasant atmosphere and rapport with the reader. It gives off the impression that the narrator is your wise grandpa who is regaling you with tales of life's mysteries. The writing is straightforward - no verbiage or fancy words. Despite the simplicity of the language used, the author succeeds in conjuring up powerful imagery and provoking emotions in readers.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. There was nothing about it that I did not like. Since I did not encounter any errors while reading, the book seems well-edited. With that considered, I give Three loves and other stories5 out of 5 stars. The book discusses topics such as love, discovering and living your truth, bullying and its effects, and, most importantly, the violence and discrimination women still experience today. Thus, I would suggest this book to all women having a hard time in society. They will undoubtedly get a lot of knowledge from this book. I also recommend this book to anybody feeling hopeless and discouraged in a relationship.
