A Pocketful of $20s, by Madelaine Lawrence, follows Lynn Price and her humane activities. Lynn is the director of nursing of "the emergency department in Deer Park Hospital, North Carolina." It is a busy ED, but Lynn, her staff, and the doctors help many people and fail only a few. She has close ties with her brother, George, and her mother, Dorothy, who lives in a comfortable elderly care home. Moreover, Lynn is continuing her mother's twenty-dollar tradition. Now, it's Christmas again, and Lynn is looking for five people, who are struggling financially to give them a twenty-dollar bill each.

However, Alan, Lynn's successful boyfriend, sees things differently from her and doesn't believe in her generosity and lifestyle. She is productive at work and has a wonderful family, but she has unfulfilling relationships with men. Nonetheless, she is committed to helping people through her job and putting smiles on people's faces this Christmastime. Can anyone stand in her way? Having some great men that desire her at work, will she eventually see the one that will truly understand her?

The book contains an engaging story of generosity, love, and dedication. It shows how helping people and doing what you love can bring out the best in your life. Honestly, it amazes me how her twenty-dollar recipients keep coming back to her life unknowingly, especially through the hospital where she works. That shows that giving has its own force of attraction. Moreover, I commend the author for her straightforward and easy-to-read writing. Her descriptions are vivid; she's strong on narrative. Besides, the dialogues are very intriguing. The characters have an amusing way of talking. I loved reading Lynn's conversations with her brother, George. He is a very funny guy.

Regarding the characters, they are all interesting to read about. Lynn is a woman with a big heart, even her elderly mother still cares about people and wishes them well. Besides, George makes the story so entertaining with his wittiness.

There's nothing I don't like about A Pocketful of $20s. It was engaging, and I enjoyed reading it; I didn't want it to end. It's a pleasant Christmas story that encourages putting smiles on people's faces by gifting them what they wish for. However, the book includes human trafficking and domestic violence. Hence, sensitive readers may not want to read it.

Altogether, I rate A Pocketful of $20s 5 out of 5 stars. I didn't rate it lower because it was appealing and well written. The author used an entertaining story to get her message across. Besides, it was well edited; I saw only one typo. It'll be a worthwhile read for anyone that is seeking a light and heart-warming fictional read.
