Three Loves and Other Stories is a compilation of anthologies. Revolving around common themes of love, relationships, and social constraints, Lata Gullapalli authors a collection of relatable stories. The restrictive nature of patriarchal society, particularly in Indian settings, is reflected in many stories that address societal realities. The author transcends geographical barriers with their work and connects with the readers by addressing various topics. Three Loves, the first story, gives an insight of the struggles a woman faces in our world. Born into a conservative family and shackled by societal constraints, the story of Sia is one of self discovery. Lata Gullapalli explores patriarchy and the expected selflessness of a woman through the protagonist. Through her musings, her three loves are revealed. How she prioritizes them forms the story.

The author has done amazingly in compiling a book of stories and connecting them through common themes. While the first story is the longest, the others too have a message that is conveyed to the audience. The writing employed by Gullapalli uses the most uncommon analogies and metaphors to relate a situation to the reader. While reading, the stories felt foreign and familiar simultaneously. Gullapalli's other stories, covers: struggles of a new marriage, prioritizing security over emotions, supernatural soul bonds, perspectives in interactions, bullying and resilience, conservative thinking, the burdens of being an older child and holding onto family through trials. A varied collection of stories truly makes for a wonderful read. The author in one of the stories uses a line, 'men know how to do nothing perfectly.' This line really struck a chord. Placing it in an Indian context, truer words could not have been written. Like so, the positives in this book are many to note and properly credit a work well compiled.

However, there were negatives in the book as well. The book as was not edited properly. There were spelling and punctuation mistakes in three areas early on. The shortcomings were purely technical and not content related.

I rate this book, 3 out of 4 stars. I wouldn't give it a perfect rating as the book was not edited properly and mistakes were glaringly obvious. Regardless, Three Loves and Other Stories makes for a good read and is comprehensible.

I would recommend this book to teens and adults. The content of this book is generally suitable for all ages. However, there is one story, 'Magic', that contains descriptions of sexual acts. Under parental supervision, this book, especially the story of bullying, would make a good read for children. It would help them see hope in the face of adversity, promoting resilience and faith.
