Pastoring is Not What You Think is a Christian faith book written by Elijah Oladimeji. Have you wondered about the life of your church pastor? Do you know what it feels like? We go to pastors for prayer and requests. Where do pastors go for their requests? That’s the concept of this book. The author brings out the life of being a pastor. It is not as easy as we imagined. Every day has its own set of troubles and problems.

Job is the pastor of a church in America. Pastor Job’s life is filled with a wide range of conflicts, intrusions, and incidents. Every day presents itself more than yesterday. Pastor Job is sandwiched between a lot of issues like house rent, his wife’s desires, church rent, church member issues, offerings, emergency situations, and so on. But through it all, Pastor Job holds on to the faith, stays strong in prayer, and keeps a good relationship with God.

Once we know this, the church members will realize how challenging pastoring can be. My dad is a pastor, so I am able to relate to the life of Pastor Job. I loved this book. The concept was simple. The message was clear. There is nothing for me to dislike about this book. I liked the conversations between Pastor Job and Lorraine when Lorraine asks for a car. It gets heated up. Finally, faith heals it all.

Also, I came to know that pastors should be ready to pray and counsel at any time of the year. Even midnight! That sounds difficult, right. That’s what Elijah Oladimeji puts out for the readers to understand. Pastoring is not easy. It has its struggles. It's only through faith and prayer that one can overcome it all. I would like to quote one of the statements made in this book. “Frequently, the way it happens is that when people are rich, they are without faith, and when people have faith, they are without wealth.”

I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The reason is for the author’s simple way of explaining the idea of this book. In this book, one can find three important messages that Pastor Job preached to his church. That is essential for today’s world. Though the entire story is based on America, the message is the same for everyone around the world. This book is edited well as I came across only two errors.

Pastoring is Not What You Think must be read by each and every church member. Whichever church you may belong to, give this book a read. This will open your eyes. Treat your church pastor with utmost respect and dignity. They deserve it. People who are not into religious beliefs might have to skip this book. This book is intended for Christian men and women.
