In her book Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War, Dorothy May Mercer speaks of a beautiful, young woman, named Cynthia, whose job description requires her to keep many secrets. Cynthia however, has been in a relationship with a police officer, Sergeant Dan, for three years, but the relationship has seemed to have lost its flame. One day, as a result of an out-of-the-ordinary event, she comes into contact with a strange, yet fascinating man, Sky Eastman. With no formal introduction or understanding of each other, Sky helps Cynthia face the challenges of the day with ease. After one too many drinks, Sky and Cynthia engage in the forbidden, leaving them tied to each other romantically, and at risk for unwanted pregnancy, which Sky tries to help Cynthia avoid. Not long from that point, Cynthia finds herself caught between these two men, and does everything she can to stay clear of the both of them, but to no avail. Amidst all of this turmoil in her love life, Cynthia is simultaneously working with her brother and two other geniuses in a private Cyber War Room, where they try to outsmart the work of terrorists. This double lifestyle gets her caught with Sergeant Dan as a stalker, and allows her to discover the truth about the mysterious Sky Eastman.

Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War, is a book that leaves readers captivated, always wanting to know what happens next. Dorothy’s exceptional writing allows for an easy-to-follow storyline. Her approach to this story gives readers the ability to know the character as a whole person, rather than limiting them to one aspect of her life. Though short, it leaves the reader feeling fulfilled after completion, satisfied with their choice of reading.

Unfortunately, Dorothy’s book did not have a captivating introduction. Although it got better progressively, the first chapter was not as captivating as it should be, as it is the first thing that the reader will encounter. The storyline though amazing had aspects that were very far from reality. While this book is indeed fiction, the timeline of some of the activities in this book was very unrealistic. In the book, Cynthia forms a relationship with Sky Eastman, but the progression of this relationship after their first romantic meeting occurred much too quickly.

Overall, this was a really fun and refreshing book. The romance mixed with the nerdy adventure was very fascinating and thrilling. Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War was also a very professionally edited book and for that reason, it deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War is suitable for older teens and young adults who enjoy an adventure with a side of romance. It not only appeals to the hopeless romantics, but to those who enjoy reading about secret adventures and crime-busting. This book, though romantic, is not overly explicit and therefore will not upset the average reader. I highly recommend it.
