[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Thoughts of a Praying Woman" by Just Leslie.] [rwc=id467366-125]2 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]Nicole and her friends may be comfortable with their blossoming careers, but their love lives are somewhat complicated. Thoughts Of A Praying Woman by Just Leslie is a book of fiction that tells the story of the complex romantic relationships in which these women are involved, as seen from Nicole’s eyes. The book also highlights the effects of prayer in Nicole’s life.

The story starts off with 30-year-old Nicole being promoted to the prestigious position of partner in her law firm. Shortly after that, the girls (Nicole, Nikki, Niecy, and Nasha) get together after a long time. However, as some secrets come to light, mistrust brews between the friends, the relationships with their partners are tested, and blood is spilled. All these happen in the middle of Nicole’s first case as a partner. How has Nicole gotten to the partner position so early in her career? What secrets come to light? What is the relationship between Nicole’s case and these secrets? Whose blood gets spilled? The answers to the above questions, and more, are all contained in this marvelous piece. Find out how it all plays out.

I have to say that this novel is one of the few that I found to be impossible to predict the next event. The twist and turns in this story are sure to leave any reader in a state of uncertainty. As a result, the reader would experience an increased amount of suspense throughout the story. I was impressed with the characterization. Leslie did an excellent job of defining the important characters in this 72-paged novel. The most engaging character, in my opinion, was Nicole because the story was narrated as seen from her eyes. Insights on her experiences as a teen were provided by the writer, and I found myself attached to her because of her difficult past. Additionally, I found the plot engaging, and the pace of the book was just right for the story; it was not too slow or too fast.

However, I found the book difficult to read because of the absence of the necessary punctuation marks. For example, the reported speeches should have appeared between quotation marks, but it didn’t. Commas were also non-existent in this book, so it was a big challenge deciphering the author’s message. Additionally, I found a lot of grammar errors; they were too numerous to count. The lack of important punctuation marks and the plethora of errors contained throughout the text are strong indications that this novel has not been professionally edited.

Although the storyline was perfect, I can only rate Thoughts Of A Praying Woman2 out 4 stars. The shortcomings I talked about earlier were significant enough to detract from my reading experience, hence my decision to deduct two stars. Even if some Bible verses were quoted, I believe this book can be read by other religions and non-religion. I recommend this piece to lovers of fiction and romance books. However, young readers are advised to sit this one out because of the detailed erotic scenes. Also, readers that are affected by profanity may want to skip this one, as profane words are scattered throughout the text. ****** Thoughts of a Praying Woman View: on Bookshelves | on Amazon
