"Get your priorities straight. Happiness comes from the heart, not from the feet. Be there for the ones you love."

The quote above was the one that stuck out the most to me in Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons. In this book, Sam Brand hopes to guide readers on living the best life they can live. A lot of people tend to focus on the less important things in life, with the mindset that those things are the most important things. By working long hours, living life through schedules, and obsessing over things, it is easy to lose sight of and miss out on things that make you happy, like spending time with friends and family, breathing, and even sex.

The first thing I enjoyed about the book was the author's method of passing his message. In this book, Sam Brand educates the reader by exploring the way of life of some interesting species in the animal kingdom, including ants, chimps, and dolphins. Employing "running marathons" as a metaphor, the author discusses the human ants that are always all about running, the human chimps that cheer the human ants on and use the ants for entertainment, and the human dolphins that are more interested in their happiness and wellbeing through living a well-balanced life. I know which of them I would rather be. I found the author's method humorous and liked it, as it made the book more fun to read. It will also lighten the mood for readers that may find this topic sensitive.

The author discusses how he was a human ant and his journey from there to becoming a human dolphin. Including his personal stories in the book made his message more relatable, as it was easy to see different areas of my life that were ant-like. This also made the book come across as inspirational to me.

Dolphins Don’t Run Marathons is an exceptionally well-edited book. I didn't encounter any grammatical or typographical errors while reading, and my reading flow was maintained throughout. It also helps that the book is concise. It is well organized, spans twenty-six chapters, and each page is not too wordy. I was able to complete the book in one sitting as well.

Overall, the book was educative, motivational, and hilarious. I learned about the negative effects on the body and mind of running long distances continuously. The positive effects of yoga on one's immune system and cortisol levels are also discussed, but I would have appreciated a few references at these points. Besides that, there's nothing else I disliked about the book. The clear message delivered and proper execution ensure that I will give the book the maximum rating of 4 out of 4. I would recommend this book to people that require motivation to adjust their lifestyles.
