Mock My Words by Chandra Shekhar is not the type of book I usually read. I normally choose crime thrillers and this book is the polar opposite of that. That being said, I really enjoyed it. This is a story about a young married couple trying to navigate their personal and professional lives. They come from very different backgrounds and approach life situations in different ways. David is a peacemaker while his wife, Laura, is determined to make her mark. Through various ups and downs they find their way to a place of contentment and self awakening.

The main character, Professor/author David Tan, was well developed and very likable. Instead of one focus, this story had several sub-stories within it. The author developed relationships between the main character and his wife, his colleagues, and his students which were equally engaging and really gave insight to the whole character and not just one facet of his personality.

I particularly liked the style with which the book was written. Short, fast moving chapters that flip flopped between the separate yet intertwined parts of David's life. In a few instances I found myself so caught up in a chapter that when it ended I wanted it to continue but then I would get into the next chapter and find myself just as involved. For these reasons I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

Readers who like getting to know the whole character in a story will enjoy this book. The author does a great job of bringing David and Laura to life and making them very relatable for the reader. The subject matter is a nice mix of intrigue and human interest.

I found this book to be well edited and without typos which made for a very pleasant read. Mock My Words by Chandra Shekhar is well worth the read.
