I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't give it a 3 because it was too amazing a read to rate it a mere 3! What I liked the most about the book was the brevity of the entire book and how concise and relevant the lessons in the narrative were. There was absolutely no part of the book that I disliked. The chapters of this book were written concisely and can be applied by everyone who reads the book to life and its varied challenges.
In an extremely witty, yet direct way, the author took his audience on a journey of how stoic his initial stance on life was and how that drained him of his joy, while being a human ant runner preparing for his 1st marathon. He stated that there are basically three kinds of human animals in the marathon running jungle - the human ant, the human chimp and the human dolphin. The human ant never really finds pleasure in anything especially while running a marathon, the human chimpanzee is sort of in between, while a human dolphin simply enjoys life for what it is.
On interacting with some human dolphins and seeing first-hand how their view on life was, the author documented how he gradually morphed into a human dolphin from being a human ant. He also shared some of the life lessons he learnt in discovering the inherent joy in enjoying the simplest of life's many adventures. Rather than be consumed by our goals, we should be self-aware and enjoy the fleeting pleasures of life in each moment we experience.
It was really interesting to read about his experiences while he was a human ant and how more rewarding his life's journey was after becoming a human dolphin himself. There were 26.2 very succinct lessons like how changing your lifestyle can change your life and also change how far you run. Also how sometimes we need to change or our future or it will be exactly like our past … only with lots of injuries.
This book can be categorized as a self-help book with relevant and relatable life lessons that will challenge a person's views to analyse him/herself and make necessary changes along the way. I highly recommend it to anyone in dire need of a book that would alter fixed mindsets about life and its idiosyncrasies.
