The Last Bush pilots by Eric Auxier is a book about bravery, fortitude and dedication. This novel is about men of strong personality and honor. The Last Bush Pilots steeps its reader into the magic world of aviation from the very first chapter and keeps him there till the very end.
So what is the novel about? A young pilot called DC moves from Phoenix to Alaska. He dreams about big “birds” - civil aviation aircrafts - but has little experience in piloting. Working as a bush pilot in Alaska will give him a ticket to the world of big aircrafts and make his dream come true. Besides piloting DC learns the importance of a real friendship and love. It helps him to overcome difficulties and make a great step on the way to his aim.
The genre is a mixture of a realistic fiction, an autobiography and a memoir. Eric Auxier is a practicing pilot, a captain of an airplane in one of the leading American air companies. And who can better tell about the beauty of the magnificent world of aviation than a real professional and an expert. Those who once fall in love with flying will never quit. There are no former pilots. Stories told by these people always seem unreal and impossible to happen.
None of the main characters of The Last Bush Pilots has asked: “What do I need it for?” Danger, the risk of crashing, difficult weather conditions, tiring working hours have never been a barrier for those men and women. “There are old pilots, and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots”. This saying is always mentioned by the characters. This is a kind of a mantra for the main heroes of the novel.
I was captured by the book. Those flying men, their problems, likes and dislikes, love affairs and dreams seemed so real. Light humor, the way the characters deal with each other, their relationships and dedication to the profession make The Last Bush Pilots easy reading and clear for the majority of readers. Though it’s full of aviation terminology. A good writer is a person who manages to involve his readers into the world created by his imagination, and make it through with the main characters. I have read the novel in one shot, and rate it 4 out of 4 stars. Thank you Mr. Auxier for telling us about a wonderful world of aviation and those real heroes in the sky.
