Having an overbearing mother is a very painful experience, one I cannot even imagine. It's sad to know that the author has written it from her own personal experience. Thanks for the review!

There is not often that I come across a story about siblings and family relationships. The story sounds depressing though, but dark humor should lift that up a bit.

I enojed your review very much. This sounds like a great read. There is always something so amazing while reading family drama based book. Even though I am not a huge fan of past and present writing when done well it can benefit the story.

It is great that the book is well edited. I do not usually read about family drama, but I am glad that you liked reading the book so much. Congrats to the author on the 4/4 rating.

This family drama looks interesting. I appreciate that the author wrote from her own experience. That usually makes for a genuine reading experience.

I love this title. Just love it. I am certain that readers who love fiction with women protagonists and and familial drama are going to love it. However, the dark humor thing, child abuse is too much for me so I'll pass on this one. Thank you for your honest and thorpugh review here.

Books with family themes are a favorite of mine. I would love to know if Rikki got her heaven after her days in hell.

Thanks for the review, but I'm not a fan of books wherein the protagonist returns home and faces issues, whatever they may be. Additionally, I barely speak with my own mother because of how she treated me when I was young, so I don't want to read about Nikki's similar travails.

The writing seems fascinating, and I am glad that besides the wonderful narration, the author also made sure the book was professionally edited. I would like to read this soon. Thanks for the review.

Dark humor is like a non-abusive mother... not everyone has the privilege (I am so sorry. A bad joke and a worse context.) However, i must say, the plot pique my interest. This sounds like a late-late coming-of-age book with thriller elements, which is to say perfect for a book. I like the fact that this book does not only focuses on Rikki and her mother's relationship but also her love life, and womenhood as well. And it is definitely a plus that author chooses to use dark humor.

It sounds like the book has a lot to entertain and subject's to absorb, but because I grew up with my own "Mommie Dearest moments" this book is not something I would find enjoyable to read. Thanks for the review!

Already read this one and to tell the truth wasn't all that impressed by it. I was tempted by promises of dark secrets and mystery, but half way through it became equally tempting to put it down and completely forget about ever picking this book again. I wouldn't recommend it, because in my opinion it's quite boring.

I like the psychological aspect of this novel...what effect did the controlling mother have on the main character? I wonder what the family secrets are? Thanks for the review, this sounds interesting.
