Your review is great! How I wish I could make a review like how you've done yours :(. And this is the first review I ever read that there's a reply on every comments he received 😂. Congrats for a job well done review :)

There is nothing trying as growing up in an abusive home. Many people who are addicted to drugs have a history of growing up in abusive homes. A good case in example is Oliver Markus Malloy's, Bad Choices make good stories, where a lady named Alice is pushed to drugs and prostitution. Yet I find hope in this book as the mother supports the young man during all these trying times making him emerge as a top musician. One would never underestimate the role mothers play in upbringing these young lads.

There's a fine line when writing books based on reality of how to make it seem real without making it drag on because of the boring little details that don't mean much. Glad to see this one balances that perfectly and I think I'll check it out

I totally enjoyed the writing in just the few pages I samples. I also connected to the characters right away, which is not usual. I do want to read this book, although the abuse that is presented may be hard to tolerate. This is a sensitive issue for me. Thanks for the great review!

This sounds like a bittersweet story. The author touches on subjects like child abuse but also write about how music was an outlet. Sounds like a great coming of age story! Congrats on book of the day!

The review gives a very good outline about the book. It is not a genre I read generally but reading the review it is a good book for music lovers.

I understand your point about the musical terminology and adult content. I'm glad that you enjoyed reading the book overall though.

A sort of Grapes of Wrath meets Horatio Alger. I was a very touching story about the struggle of this particular family that made it all the more enjoyable.

Your review makes this sound like an interesting story about a complex family. I'm a bit of a history buff so am wondering if the father and brother's attitude toward music might have been a result of the Depression-era mindset. Did you feel that might have been part of the dynamic between the three?

Music was a large part of my life growing up, though I haven't had time to play much lately. Hopefully, that'll change in the future! It's always great to hear stories of how music affects people, especially in hard times like Joey experienced.

Based on the review this really sounds like a touching story. The tale of a coming of age along with abuse and following your dreams is inspiring. The fact that the reviewer was moved to tears really speaks to the character development and believability of the story.
