I think every novel develops better with strong female characters. Same is the case with this one. There were not any main female characters but there were some prominent female characters. The women at the pub who helped the main characters were one of them. Sarah was a strong side-character too.

I think the novel is gender sensitive and gives equal ground to both men and women. Sarah plays a crucial role in the novel.

Female characters bedeck a novel and make it interesting. I found the female characters in this book sufficient. However, character development would have enhanced the others apart from Sarah.

In the current series Sarah's character was more nuanced but the fiancee and wife's characters could have been more fleshed out. Given the historical context ext may be that was appropriate but besides Sarah these two women are really pale.

The inclusion of women in any piece of art largely depends on two factors: audience and the setting. No sane author would want to write a book that would forever remain in the shelves of bookshops. However, I believe the outright absence of women in this novel is a deliberate move by the author, who wants this historical text to be placed in its immediate setting, where women were inertly present in most social constructions. Therefore, I wouldn't call him a mysogynist because you can't have the stars visibly twinkling in broad daylight.

Yes, eventhough the settings of the story are pretty rough, it will be better if there were some more females in this story, because sometimes you get tired reading all about males. You want to have a stronger female presence in books, even with topics as such. However, the author did a fine job with female characters he did use, especially Sarah.

Yes, I think the novel could have benefited from a greater female presence. This is in consideration with Johnny Cook for example his mother, siblings, girl friend or wife. That is if he(Cook)or them(female presence) are worried about one another. The troubles the females might be experiencing.

I think having a strong presence of female characters does not improve or make a book or a story worse. Both women and men are an essential part of life and society. I think that the quality of a story or a script lays in other factors.

Yes, a greater women presence would have enriched the book especially in this age of enlightenment and empowerment. Feminine characters in the novel play minor roles.

This book focuses more on female characters and encourages more women to read. I like books like this.

I think that every novel deserves a greater presence of female characters, regardless of whether there is a historical basis for something like that or not.

Of course I think powerful females in our current media are important. What we see and hear shapes who we are. I believe that female roles would have made this book appeal to bigger audiences.

I feel the female presence was just the right amount. I did not even think about which gender dominated the story more. The story is intriguing either way.
