ARA Review by Jaeden Hill of Raven's Peak

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

The book Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole is a supernatural mystery revolving around the sudden insanity of a small town with the same name as the book. A woman named Abigail is called upon to investigate the problem and a man name Haatim is whirled into it when she saves him. The two must now figure out and resolve the issue going on in Raven's Peak.

What I enjoyed about Raven's Peak was the choice of how much to describe at any moment. It allows the readers to have a little more imagination in some places, or places them so entirely accurately in other places. The fighting scenes were also easy to follow and not drawn out more than needed. What I enjoyed most about Raven's Peak was the interaction between Abigail and Haatim, their stark yet similar personalities worked well. Even when the situation was for them to be butting heads a little bit, it felt in character and not forced.

This is my first time reading the author. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. It reminds me a lot of one of my favourite TV shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I mean that as a compliment. Abigail is a great character, tough, feisty, not one to suffer fools gladly, a bit like Faith but harsher. Demon slayers are cool. Raven’s Peak is full of action and intense fighting scenes. I thought Haatim was great as well. He knows nothing about his father’s life or demons and it’s all thrust upon him unexpectedly. He copes pretty well with life-altering events. I like the way the characters develop by the end of the book, especially Haatim who becomes a bit of a bad-ass.
