Cozy Mystery/Crime Book Help

Post by Heidi M Simone »

As we are reading books that fall under the cozy mystery and/or crime genre, let's talk about what books in those genres are good to read.

Crime: It's a genre that presents crimes, the investigation to the crimes, criminals, and their motives in a fictional way. Most times, suspense and mystery are woven into the book's plot.

Crime book suggestions:
  • Millennium series by Stieg Larsson
  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  • Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle

Cozy mystery: This is a subgenre of crime, where sex and violence are toned down or presented in a light/humorous manner. The crime at hand is usually taken place in a small intimate community. These books are considered to be "fun reads" and usually features an amateur sleuth.

Cozy Mystery book suggestions:
  • Miss Marple series by Agatha Christie
  • Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley
  • Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris
  • Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke

What are you thinking of reading? Do you have more suggestions or need help deciding?

Is there a book in the crime genre that anyone would like to recommend? I'm not a big fan of cozy mysteries, but there are some crime books that I do like. :)

I recommend Widows by Lynda La Plante, a good crime novel about four widows who plan a heist.

For the crime mystery genre, I recommend the Detective Cormoran Strike Series by Robert Galbraith. The books so far are The Cuckoo's Calling, The Silkworm, and Career of Evil. Robert Galbraith is also J. K. Rowling's pseudonym. I believe the books have been made into a T. V. Series as well.

I have read the first and the second books and liked them.
