Supernatural and Horror/Spooky Tales Book Help

Post by Heidi M Simone »

:scared-ghostface: Supernatural: Books in this genre include some kind of contradiction to our typical world. These contradictions or elements typically cannot be explained by nature or science, and can be assumed they were created and/or originated from otherworldly forces.

:scared-eek: Horror/Spooky Tales: These are meant to spook, disgust, and/or frighten us as readers. These books can sometimes leave us having nightmares or just merely startle us. Not all has to be so frightening or gross, though. Children's spooky books can be a source of entertainment and clean fun.

Some adult book suggestions:
  • The Shining by Stephen King
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • World War Z by Max Brooks
  • It by Stephen King
  • Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
Some children/YA book suggestions:
  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
  • Coraline by Neil Gaiman
  • Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  • Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine
  • The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams
  • It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown by Charles M. Schulz

I recommend "A Night in the Lonesome October" by Roger Zelazny, as it takes place in October, when ancient powers get ready to rise on Halloween.

I recommend the classic, 'The Headless Horseman', even though I'm not sure who wrote it.

Are you thinking about The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving? It has the Headless Horseman in it. That would be a good one for this month. Great suggestion! :tiphat:

I've been really enjoying A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness! So, I would most likely recommend this book to others, too.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It's about a boy who grew up in a graveyard and is raised by ghosts.

There are a lot of books by Dean Koontz that I've really enjoyed over time. He's got a great Frankenstein series that is a great supernatural read.

That's a good suggestion! If I have time, I would like to read The Graveyard Book this month.

Really? I've seen the author's name, but I actually have never read any from him. That Frankenstein series does sound like an interesting one, though! Thank you for the suggestion!

I haven't heard about this particular book, but I have loved everything else I've read by Neil Gaiman. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

I don't think I've ever read anything by Neil Gaiman actually :eusa-think: Though I have heard a lot of good things about him!
