I find the cover very fitting. It draws the reader in, wanting to know more about this man. What else besides his face is he hiding?

I do think that the black and white is an interesting choice since one of the main plot threads involves the choices the main character makes in regards to his grandson. The main character exists in the grey shades of life while many of the supporting characters are all right or all wrong.

The cover is black n white but ironically the all characters are grey including Hiram.

The cover is not attractive. But maybe it's the best cover for this book. With how black and white the characters are.

Although black and white is appropriate, I feel it would do more good if the picture had more detail. I almost lost my interest in reading it due to its cover.

To me it seems the cover is made to give the same impression to the reader as the character gives off to the other characters in the book. Dark, mysterious, with not enough information to be fully understood. This gives him the perfect backdrop to then be perceived as the dynamic character he actually is once we as readers spend enough time with him.

I liked the book cover. It displayed the mystery surrounding McDowell as well as provide the sophisticated look he worked so hard to maintain.

The cover could have been a collage of pictures from Hirams life. One of him mountain climbing, his clinic, his family, playing music, being on the run and even on in the old library.

I didn't really like the cover and I don't think I would have picked it up based solely on the title

I liked how the simplicity of the cover juxtaposes the complexity of the man. I think even though it wasn't colorful, it wasn't drab. The cover wouldn't draw my attention among other covers in a store but intrigued me in this format. His picture on the cover showed the focus would be on him and maybe we wouldn't want to see what is underneath the surface.

This is an interesting topic. I had not actually thought about the book cover at all. I chose the book based solely on the synopsis given. The story just sounded interesting to me. In looking at the cover now though, it is quite drab. I’m not sure that that is the cover I would’ve chosen for this book. The book has much more depth to it than a simple black-and-white photo. However, the cover does lend some mystery. It makes the reader want to know more about this McDowell character. What is he hiding? What secrets will be uncovered?

No, the cover doesn't do justice for McDowell's story. It's because I thought it was going to be about man who is alone and stoic but that wasn't the case when I finally read the book. McDowell was just a heartless, inconsiderate and selfish man.

I think the cover should have been more entertaining as it would attract more readers to the book. The black and white cover is just too bland.

I thought the artwork on the cover was perfect. It was minimalistic, yet intriguing and one of the reasons I read the book.

The cover is good because it shows Hiram hiding behind his hat.
