I almost just posted the exact same thing. I totally agree.

Ugh why does that always happen? Like I hate the book all the way through and when it's over I'm happy. Am I happy about the story or am I just glad it's over?

One things I discovered about William H. Coles, is that he's always practical in writing. Therefore I guess it should be a movie.

McDowell would be perfect as a mini series with maybe 8 episodes. It would work because of the different characters and each episode could delve into Hiram's connection with them. I would definitely watch it!

According to me, it would need an extraordinary screen-writer to successfully make this book as a movie!
Yes, maybe it would work but we cannot deny the fact that the book would always be better!

I think this can be a movie. But it depends on the director, on how he or she is going to highlight certain aspects of the book.

yes it could be shaped in the form of a movie. Because it is a story of a surgeon who efforts through whole of his life to make money, to upgrade his career, to abuse the other people, and to misuse differen ladies even his wives. It is a story which can be converted into a film in fact.

With its diverse discussions on societal issues, I believe it could make a good thriller movie.

I think that a story about the life of 'a female surgeon' can be a movie!

I think it could be made into a movie. With that being said, I do not know if it would do well in theatres. I think it would be more of a film that I would watch at home to rent on something, such as, Netflix.

I agree that a limited series might be a better approach. I think for a movie a lot would need to be cut out for time but with a series it could cover all of the important aspects of the books that could be lost otherwise

In my opinion, plot-driven books generally have the makings of a good movie than character-driven stories. However, McDowell, despite being the later, can still be turned into a movie. It has got a good storyline with multiple interesting characters and turn of events. Additionally, the two parts of the book fits the structure of a movie, the two halves separated by the intermission. However, I have one concern. Can the movie portray the ups and downs of the characters and show the moral transformation with authencity? This is something I would love to look forward to.

Interesting thought. Yes, better a series than a single movie. More freedom and opportunities to show the gradual transformation.
