The plot and storyline sound very interesting. I will have to check this book out.

I thought the opening sequence was intriguing as we meet a character who could leave his climbing partner for dead. My concern with the following chapters was a sense that this individual was becoming a caricature of himself as we saw his dismissive attitude to his wives. It made the character lose his credibilty with me; however, it sounds like redemption plays a part, which sounds interesting and so I may yet finish the book.

I enjoyed reading this book. It truly is a story of redemption and gives hope that one can reinvent themselves even after making marked mistakes. I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys a story about redemption and taking a hard look at themselves.

I have read this book, and I think the character of McDowell is portrayed very well. He started off as an antagonist, but as the book went on, McDowell seemed like a better person.

Although the book was good, I did not like the way McDowell treated women, and this may be offensive to more readers as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading McDowell. I loved how the book was about a rogue turned rescuer. For an arrogant man, it was a great twist to see his rare caring nature bring about his downfall. It was a great plot that I would be happy to see loosely replicated in other works.
You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

It's a really engaging book, well edited, with very few grammatical errors. I'll rate it a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. It's not suitable for a younger audience though.

I am halfway through the book and I can say already it's a good one. The characters are realistic and relatable.

McDowell, if not an unputdownable read was an amazing read nonetheless. I gave it 3 out of 4 stars in my review. I liked how all the characters introduced (there were many) got their own story arc and a conclusion they deserved. What I disliked about the book is again similar that there were way too many characters and some of them just didn't add up to the storyline.

It's interesting how the plot gets twisted at the end of the story, pretty unpredictable. It keeps a reader engaged.
A joke is to entertain people. If it fails to do so, it's something else!

I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was an excellent read! It was very interesting to me how I could dislike a character so much at the beginning of the book and yet be pulling for him so hard at the end of the book. I thought it was a great tale of redemption and proof that even the worst souls can change for the better if given the right circumstances.

I would most definitely recommend this book to others. In fact, I already have. This book was not my typical genre to read but I am so glad that I gave it a chance!

I am currently working on reading McDowell . My interest in the characters chaotic lives is what keeps me going, but I can't help but feel annoyance in the extremes of how undervalued and inadequate women are written about in this book. Hiram McDowell has every horrible quality imaginable thus far: rude, greedy, vain, conceited, and very belittling to women. I will definitely finish the book, I would like to see how this all plays out in the end.

I think the jump from character to character and their relationship to Hiram helps keep things from getting stale. Although I am still reading this book, I would recommend it so far.

I had mixed feelings. I found that part 1 went on too long. The McDowell character was too generic.
Part 2 redeemed the book for me. We really do see McDowell's character grow after his time alone in the wilderness (obviously a common theme in literature)

The story of Hiram's journey to self-discovery is masterfully done. Evidently, the author has done a great job in developing the book's characters. I give the book a perfect rating
