Too Many Conflicts?

Post by gfowle »

How did you feel about the various conflicts that arise throughout this story? Do you feel that there were too many at one time, or do they work together to create a compelling plot?

At times, I felt that there were so many conflicts between the various characters, that I did not know which would be the most important. Is this an effective strategy by the author, or does it distract from the main events of the story?

To be honest, I loved the multitude of conflicts in the book that coloured the story. I feel that they enriched the narrative.

No. I think they helped flesh out the characters by showing their desires. Without that they would just be faces in the background.

I thought it helped make the characters less one dimensional.

Conflicts have helped in development of plot and themes.

I found the conflicts were useful in terms of character development. I agree it was difficult to determine the most relevant at times, however as it is part of a series, I presume that some will return in later books.

I believe that all the conflict makes the novel as interesting as it is if there wasn't any of that then the book would be dull and if there wasn't so many it would basically be the same as any of the other books of this genre

I thought the conflict in the book went well together. It keeps me on my toes wanting to know what was happening next. I enjoyed reading the many conflicts. They all had a purpose in my opinion. They made the story what it was. You saw all their personal lives, as well as how it all intertwined together. :)

I believe the many conflicts fleshed out the book more effectively though it might be a bit difficult to point out the most relevant ones at times.

I agree with Cassandra. Conflicts add to character development. You learn a lot about a person in how they handle conflict. Many times you can relate more to a character by watching them solve conflicts in their lives. Did you find yourself empathizing with the characters in the midst of their conflicts? I’d be interested to know.

I thought they all worked together to make a compelling plot. The ruling land + forbidden love + strong antihero= a great storyline.

Conflicts are what create stories. Balance is key.
Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book.

If there is a decent amount of conflicts, then it is okay but if there are too many, the reader may become confused and the plot will lose its thrill. Too much of one thing is good for nothing. There must be a balance.

I think a lot of conflicts can help make a book interesting, but I agree that sometimes it also makes it hard to follow.
