This book was very heavy on historical references. I found myself getting lost and bored in all of the Roman political maneuvering. Perhaps if there was the slightest bit of closure at the end of the first book, I would consider reading the second installment. With the way this book ended, I feel like picking up book two will then require you to read book three...

The bits of the second book that I read were good, but still not enough to make me really want to buy and read the second.

I agree with you on this. I'm just not interested enough to put the time into a sequel. I'm pretty sure it won't end at book two...Kendra M Parker wrote: ↑30 Sep 2018, 15:27 I have some moderate curiosity about what happens next, but I just was not drawn into the book very well. I found it difficult to finish, and I typically love fantasy books with a strong historical fiction element.

I enjoyed the first book and look forward to reading the sequel to it.
