Similarites between World Inc. and Wall-E

I know that the two stories couldn't be more different, but I couldn't help noticing some big similarities between World Incorporated and the Pixar film Wall-E.
In both, the big corporations take over, and the somewhat mindless people go about their everyday lives without much stimulation.
Did anyone else notice a slight connection between the two? Was there anything else from the book that shared themes from Wall-E?

Do you know, now that you’ve said that I do see a connection. I don’t remember much about Wall-E, but I do remember the fact that all the humans did become under stimulated zombies almost! That’s interesting, I never would have thought of that.

As per my view, science fictions have talked about many themes by now. So it is unavoidable to have at least few similarities

Not read any of the books, but most books that share the same genre tend to have certain similarities so I won't be surprised.

I think it's a good comparison. The biggest flaw I see is World, Inc (and the other super-corporations) worked to fix global warming rather than just give up on the Earth and move into space.

Exactly. That's where the two are completely different.
But as far as being run by supercorporations, people doing what they're told to do, and technology running the place, I saw a few things that reminded me of Wall-E when I read the book.

Very good observation. There are a few things here that remind one of Wall-E.

I wasn't thinking this at all, but now that you mention it there is some similarities. I wasn't a huge fan of either though.

Good catch. I was thinking the same thing.

I'm curious what the others that you noticed are? I'm still reading so I haven't caught everything yet, although I definitely see the connection between the world being run by corporations in both.

This is exactly what I thought of when I first read the synopsis.

I think the same as you. The points made by the creator of this thread do stand, but the whole point of Wall-e is that they gave up on the world because it had problems (global warming, trash), and the super-corporations found ways to fix these problems.

Granted, any future dystopia story can be compared to each other because they focus on the same themes of either survival, corruption of the government or both.

At this point similarities are unavoidable in dystopian novels.

As I said, the stories couldn't be more different. I was looking for something else uniquely comparable between the two.
