New Forum: Organize your own Read-A-Long!

Post by Gravy » 22 Jul 2018, 06:17

There is currently a glitch preventing members from being able to open threads in this forum.
If you get a Read-A-Long scheduled, just let me know and I can open the thread for you.

What is a read-a-long?

Simply when two or more people read the same book, at the same time, and discuss it as they read.

This thread will allow you to look for interest in whatever book you want to have a read-a-long of, and (hopefully) find other members who want to read it along with you!

So post something along the lines of, "I want to read *blank*, is there anyone who'd like to read it with me?"

Once you have another person (or other people), schedule the date you want to start reading, and create your thread.

Just remember, these will be discussions of the entire book. There will be spoilers, so don't click on a random thread if you haven't read the book!

Please include the title and author when suggesting a book, so that other members can look the book up.

Only suggestions with the title and author will be added to the list.

*Members of the Review Team should note that if you are actively reviewing a book for the site, even if there is a read-a-long happening for it, you should not post to the thread/read the thread.

Books looking for interest
It by Stephen King = Gravy (aiming for October)
Stud in the Stacks by Pippa Grant = anavihs
The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler = Bookmermaid
Maru by Bessie Head = Bookmermaid
Five Knocks by Donna Vincent Roa = MishM1
Great Books of the Western World as compiled by Adler = achintis

Books scheduled
If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.

I don't have yet idea what is the best book to read a long. Because it matters what will be the interest of each of you.😆😂
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

This new feature sounds interesting. This will make the book more interesting, and knowing that the other person is reading the book at the same time will make reading even more fun and enjoyable.

That is a great addition. Book discussion in the course of reading is healthy for readers.

I think this is a great idea, though I don't actually own too many books. I always prefer to do things such as read, paint, crochet, or play games when someone is also doing the same thing. It keeps me focused and is much more fun.
