I'm not sure about the chapter (I'm pretty sure I'm not that far). We're going through the second door.

(I know, not very far. It's been a busy few days. )

It is fine. :)

When they move through that door, I wanted to scream at them NOT to do that!

And what the deal with those willows anyway?? They give me the chills!

I like spooky tales with humor, and I like both characters!

I very quickly realized I was going to enjoy this more than The Twisted Ones. This type of existential horror seems to really work with my brain.

I read through chapter 13

That bus was something! All of it is just... yikes! :o

I am in the middle of chapter 15.

I like it too! The book isn't that scary, but it is fine with me!

The bus, the boatman, the man in the waters, and 'they', all gave me the chills. I liked the way the protagonists handlled themselves when the thought-reading creatures passed by them. And those trees! The way they move around and connected to the creatures is hair-raising!

I'm getting closer to the end.

She just cleaned up the broken display case.

That boatman... *internal-screaming*

Definitely like this one more than the last.

Nice!

That boatman made me shudder.

The writings in the bible were a good touch. I like how the author gave us more info about the world thourgh the writing.

The "nightmares" and the sections after the broken display case sure were scary!

I liked this one too!

Oh, that boatman was horrible!

Okay, I've finished.
I'm slightly disappointed that it didn't stay more existentialist horror. From about the mid point on it got more and more like The Twisted Ones.
I still really enjoyed it. I rated it a 3.

I absolutely love Stirdevant... Sturdivant... However you spell his name!
He is sooo creepy, but then helps her, and I just didn't see that coming. (I did, however, know she was going to wind up in his bunker! I wanted to scream at her not to go in there, but it all worked out in the end!)

That whole scene in the museum, all those dead critters moving around... Very well done. Very creepy.

I hope we keep getting these kinds of books by her.

I also agree about the bible. It was a great device for safely exploring that world.

Also, I've got Over the Woodward Wall if you want to read that now.
Or if you want to go back to October.

I have no preference. :tiphat:

I agree and also gave it 3 out of 4. I liked the travel to another world, but I felt it wasn't explored enough. In additon, it lacked any real fear factor.

I found the school bus and Stirdevant creepier than the hungry things. Sturdivant indeed was great!

I liked that the dead critters came to her help. I also liked the friendship between Kara and Simon.

Let's start Over the Woodward Wall first, it is shorter. We can start it today, and then go back to October. :)
