Let's read and/or discuss this YA fantasy book by Paris-born Chinese national author, Amelie Wen Zhao.

You can read at your own pace or aim for reading a chapter a day. :D

I have started the book, and I'm about to start chapter five. Where are you in the book?

I am enjoying the book so far. It started with action, and I love the magic aspect of it.

It's good! I'm taking it a chapter a day though so I've just finished Chapter 4. So far, I like the writing. The magic reminds me of Katara from Aang the last Avatar. :D

What do you think of Ana and Ramson so far?

I am about to start chapter 11.

Indeed! It does sound like that Avatar, now that you mention it.

I have read that Ana is supposed to be re-retelling of Anastasia. I like Ana. Ramson is a complicated character. I didn't like him at first, but he grew up on me.

So far, I'm more curious about him than Ana. There were so many reveals on Ana already.

I love the little bumps/problems they've had in the book. It adds to the world-building and also exposes more about their personality.

@gali I've read just a bit ahead of schedule. Now at chapter 10. I like that twist with the alchemist! So far, I'm hoping Ana learns to control her emotions as well as her powers.

Great! I am in chapter 21 and I enjoy it very much.

I liked the twist too!

Ramson is growing up on me, and I love his wit. Ana is too temperamental and I want to shake her now and then. I really like the concept of Affinities, the flow is great, and the writing is smooth.

It feels like there will be romance between the two. But, I hope it'll be believable.

What do you think of May?

Yes, it feels like that. I like that it isn't the focus of the story, though.

I like May and the way she protects Ana is awesome! She got guts!

True! I just get the feeling from Ramson that he was affected by Ana so much. He's not his usual self. But, I'm not sure Ana will feel the same about him. Her

I also like how Ana is protective of May. I hope the later chapters will show more of their bond.

Wow! Congratulations!

I'm just at the middle, Chapter 21! It's all so fast.

I loved the fight scene! Intense, emotional. I really hope Ana learns to control it because she's really strong. I like that she's not too good at it yet, though. Or that she suddenly becomes good at it. Makes it more of a good story, right?

And god, that friendly intimate scene after was wonderful. It's like a pledge. I really hope it won't turn into mushy love story.

Yes, the pace is fast, and I couldn't stop reading!

It was a good story, and I plan to read the sequel. :)
