I don't like the cover page picture

To tell you honestly, my first impression with the picture as cover page for the book is not very alluring. I'm not trying to judge the character of the author nor the picture of the man in tattoos, but I find it disturbing to put it on cover page.

First, it scares a lot of people to see someone swallowing a sword, including me.
Second, I don't think this book is intended for kids of all ages.
Third, I would surely not try to read this book.
Lastly, inasmuch as I don't like circus and tattoos, I do hope people would read this book by Gary Robinson.

lol...no, it's not just you! My first reaction to the sword was to jerk away from the picture! There was also the fact that the picture seemed too busy. Although, it does get points for getting the message across straightaway.

I thought it was just me who didn't like the cover page. It was a major distraction for me to choose this book to read or to choose any other book over it. I'm not telling it in an offensive way. I just feel like the cover page could have been better than that.

I thought the cover picture had a bit of a "shock value". And that can turn both ways- it can put you off or interest you enough to pick up the book and read!! In my case, it got me curious

I felt the picture was gripping and pulled me in to read the novel The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid.
It may not be for every age group, but thats not Gary Robinson's point. (in my opinion)
If anything it doesn't fall flat.

I don't think the cover page is that bad. The cover page is what drew me in and what made me want to review the book. I think that the sword swallower on the cover gives a great representation of what the book is about. This book is also definitely not for kids.

I am also not a fan of the cover photo. I agree with all of the points that you make. The old phrase, "don't judge a book by its cover" definitely came to mind when I first clicked on the book.

I do agree the cover made me want to pass over it honestly I did until I saw it was BOTM. I personally would had made the cover stand out more.

I am bad for judging a book by its cover. Based on the cover of this book I would not have read it. I understand why Gary Robinson chose that cover, but it just didn't entice my eyes. Duke was the type of performer that wanted people to stop and stare. It was one of the reason he got so many tattoos. He wanted the crowd to stop and take notice. After reading the book, the cover makes all the sense in the world to me. It is true what they say, you can't judge a book by its cover.

Haha, well played, mate. If that is the case, then it was a risky move on the author's part, or whoever chose the cover, because most people don't go beyond the cover. Most of us here gave the book a chance because it was BOTM

Touche! Your right its caused a discission and drawn interest in an otherwise uninteresting book (based off cover alone) it was either a coincidence or brillianxe on the authors part...guess we'll never know which!
