Her death was wasted on the rest of the characters too; none of them learned anything from her death really (Rose opened up about her daughter but that's not much) and nothing interesting came after it either. Shock ending with no real purpose.
Is that lack of learning the hard lessons a reflection of society?

Not satisfied with the ending at all. Too dramatic, considering the overall flow of the book. Maybe I got too much attached to the characters that I didnt like how it ended.

I don't think what she did was out of character, exactly. There comes a point where even the most resilient person can get fed up. With everything she was managing by herself, it was almost inevitable that it would come to a boil. Her death was unexpected, though.

She was out of character. She never exuded such abrupt emotional reaction to situations.

I don't think she was out of character. She was always described as a very emotional person, she hid in her room and cried several times when she was worried or stressed. With Mike back, she can't do that anymore, I think in that scene she just needed to get away from him and let out all her frustration. Besides, after all she went through, I can understand why she would react that way. She was overwhelmed, she was scared, and it led to her not being able to think clearly. It's a human response. I do admit I was shocked that it ended in her death, as well as heartbroken for her friends and family.

I guess it's a misunderstanding that's blown off. It was not supposed to grow big like that; it can be talked over and settled, not running off in a storm like that. That's kinda immature, if you ask me.
Happy reading,

I think she was only 22 or 23. It's definitely not my way of dealing with things anymore, but I can remember being that age and just needing to go somewhere to clear my head.
I am more inclined to agree with you. Amanda was really young and had a lot on her plate.

True! I too felt it was kind of immature. I really wished that they could have sorted things out.

The ending was very shocking, but I didn't think that Amanda was acting in character at the end of the book. I think it is related to her relationship with her husband and the problems she had to deal with.

No and yes; No, because throughout the book we see her as a wise and mature for her age mother who is trying hard to hold the fort and yes, because sometimes when you have been strong for too long it only takes something as minor as a disagreement to make one snap.

Amanda was young yet had so many responsibilities and still had to worry sick about Mike. I think her storming out was needed (by her), but her death was unexpected. I don't see how her death was 'necessary for the plot.'

The character development was done well. To be honest, I wasn't happy with how it ended. It could have been made better by making the scenes with lots of emotional and deep dialogues between the women.

I think it is normal thing to react when you are upset. But being a mum caution should applied. She went a bit too far. We should learn to put our emotions under control.

Well, most people in her shoe would act the same way. It was difficult to cope with her husband leaving again.
