Which character do you relate to the most?

The women in this book are all so different that it makes it easy to find a connection with at least one of them. I related to Amanda the most because my husband was previously deployed while my children were the exact same ages as her children in the book. I could relate to her daily struggles of missing her husband while also adjusting to being a single parent.

Which character did you make a connection with?

I related to Sophie the most because I had a similar experience learning how to fish this nice veteran taught me how to cast and what bait to use.

I also related to Sophie. She is a tomboy, single in her forties and loves farming.

I probably related to Amanda the most as I found it hard to adjust to being home with my kids when they were very young. My husband was also in the military, although he wasn't deployed too often and it was for much shorter time periods. I could relate to her desire for "me time!" I also related to Amanda's bargain hunting since I love finding deals on normally expensive items.

I related to Sophie: tomboy, always putting others before her, but I also relate to Rose. She reminds me a lot of ny mom and grandma both of whom I share the same traits: hard headed, always ready to give advice, always knows more than she lets on. There were traits that the others had that I could see in myself but I more closely related to Rose and Sophie.

I can most relate to Veronica. At one time, her fast-paced life was mine. She seems to share many other characters with me, as she balances hubby and work quite well, while also being there for her friends.

I really related to Melody, struggling to find her artistic way in the world.

I fall firmly in the tomboy category with Sophie! Give me chickens and my garden before heels and make up any day of the week!

I was able to relate to Amanda the most as a mother of two kids trying to balance work and home.

I able to relate myself to Amanda. I'm not yet a mother but i'm actually a student. We are somewhat related because in her case she can balance her work and home, in my case, I can balance my time on studies and family.

I think I am a mix of all the women. I suffered Sophie's broken heart. Like Rose, I used to have a home where my friends could stay with or without notice. I also enjoyed some time as a successful career woman like Veronica. I now experience Amanda's harried-head-of-the-household worries. I'll let you guess how I relate to Melody, LOL!

Melody for me. I'm a sucker for the struggling artist type! Her awkwardness around the other women in the beginning also put me firmly on her side, as did her sense of independence.

I like how you are able to find something of yourself in all of the women. Do you think the author was trying to do that on purpose?

Find any similarities with Melody yet?

Now that you ask, I think the author meant for the readers (women especially) to find themselves in all the five girls. They are in different stages in their lives. They have all experienced loss. They all emerge from the storm as different from before.

Regarding Melody, not that I have any tats or body piercings, but I too sometimes need to get away to find myself. I'm still looking, lol.
