Actually I was planning on reading the book. It sounds interesting. But a bit put out by the cliffhanger part.

I think the first battle with Leaf being reborn as Brimstone was the best. Definitely set a tone for the rest of the book.

I agree. It really did set the tone.

It definitely was full of action. This one isn't ever dull for sure. As for my favorite? I'm not sure... I kind of enjoyed when somehow brimstone helped heat when her amulet melted.

My trip to Adele book was amazing, from page to page, to scene to scene. It was literally hard to put the book down!

I enjoyed that part, as well. Once she got past the initial shock and upset, I think it gave Heat more hope.

I liked the training parts with Nova. I was reminded of the Karate Kid (wax in, wax out).

One of my favorites was the scene in which Brimstone had to connect with his doppelganger through the mirror. It had strong undertones of the Magic Theater from Steppenwolf, a great German classic, but I actually preferred Brimstone's confrontation of his duality more than Haller's, because the scene had a strong resolution instead of floundering like some sick fever-dream.

As I said in my overall rating, I was more into this book in some parts than in others. A part I enjoyed was Brimstone's training with Nova and how it paid off. I like to read material that reminds me that you get better at things if you keep at them. It was great that Brimstone found himself way ahead of his fellow students when he had always been the underdog before.

If I say, the triumph of Brimstone over an enemy, killing him, then I will be construed as blood-thirsty. I would rather be neutral and say, all are up to par with my liking.

All of the scenes really are amazing, though. Everything was vividly described, and I had no problems picturing it all in my head.
I appreciate so much when scene are vividly described, to the extent that you almost feel like you are there, sitting on the edge of your seat. This is what makes reading so great to me! :techie-studyinggray:

I liked Brimstone's first battle. The author puts it so well that the reader is convinced that Brimstone won't survive the ordeal.

I think the best part is when Brimstone obtained justice at the death of his false accuser, the General.

I enjoyed this as well. Even though I knew Brimstone was bound to survive, since it was his story, the author did well to keep us in suspense as to how.

I've read so many of your posts about this first mage battle I feel like I MUST now read this book. I am a true fantasy lover and love books about mages. I am so excited to stumble on a new mage read.

Side note-in college my husband and I were HUGE WoW players...and I always rolled a mage. :violence-duel:
